Details

I am a Consultant Haematologist providing independent medico-legal opinion in civil claims, including personal injury and clinical negligence.

I provide clear, structured, and objective reports grounded in specialist haematology expertise and a strong analytical background in mathematics and physics (double first class honours). This supports a logical, probability-based approach to complex issues of causation, particularly in cases involving multiple contributing factors or diagnostic uncertainty.

My reports are concise, transparent, and written for a non-medical audience, with clear separation of fact, assumption, and opinion. All conclusions are expressed on the balance of probabilities and supported by explicit reasoning, enabling the Court to understand and rely upon the evidence.

I have extensive experience in clinical governance, including Serious Adverse Event review, Root Cause Analysis, and complaints investigation. This provides practical insight into clinical decision-making, system failures, and the assessment of standards of care.

I am Chair of the Sector Thrombosis Committee & MDT and lead author of regional haemostasis and thrombosis guidelines, providing insight into the application and interpretation of clinical standards in practice.

I am the Principal Investigator (PI) for the National Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP) Register.

My expertise can be applied to cases requiring expertise pertaining to the following conditions:

1. Haemostasis & Thrombosis (H&T)

  • Venous Thromboembolism (VTE): Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT), Pulmonary Embolism (PE), and unusual site thrombosis.
  • Prophylaxis Failures: Assessment of VTE risk screening and failure to prescribe appropriate thromboprophylaxis.
  • Anticoagulation Management: Errors involving Warfarin, Heparin (including HIT), and DOACs (Apixaban, Rivaroxaban).
  •  Bleeding Disorders: Management of major haemorrhage, haemophilia, and Von Willebrand Disease.

2. Malignant Haematology

  • Leukaemia: Acute leukaemia (AML/ALL) and Chronic Leukaemia (CML/CLL), including delayed diagnosis and treatment toxicity.
  • Lymphoma
  • Myeloma
  • Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS)
  • Myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN)

3. Transfusion Medicine

  • Transfusion Reactions: Anaphylaxis, ABO incompatibility, TRALI, and TACO.
  • Delays in transfusion

4. Haemoglobinopathies & General Haematology

  • Sickle Cell disease
  • Thalassaemia: Iron overload and chronic transfusion complications.
  • Anaemia: Iron, B12, and Folate deficiencies; Pernicious; Aplastic

I work in accordance with Civil Procedure Rules Part 35 and recognise the importance of independence, proportionality, and timeliness. I offer both screening and full reports, and am available for joint statements, conferences with counsel, and court attendance where required.

I am available for an initial telephone discussion with instructing solicitors to consider the suitability of a potential instruction, clarify the scope, and indicate timescales prior to formal instruction.
