Paul John Griffiths is an HCPC-registered Practitioner Psychologist (Forensic), Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society, Chartered Scientist, and European Psychologist (EuroPsy).
He specialises in:
· forensic mental health,
· trauma-related presentations,
· dissociative conditions (including Psychogenic Non-Epileptic Seizures/PNES),
· neuropsychological functioning (behavioural and functional implications rather than brain-based pathology),
· behavioural risk assessment (violence and sexualised behaviour),
· vulnerability in custodial settings (suggestibility),
· complex formulation.
As a member of the International Test Commission, Paul follows the quidelines in provideing forensic psychological assessments, expert reporting, and courtroom testimony across criminal, civil, parole, and public law proceedings.
His instructions commonly involve:
· vulnerable defendants (incl. neurodiversity etc.),
· failure to provide (RTA 1988 s.7(6), reasonable excuse by psychological incapacity/inability),
· fitness to plead and effective participation,
· mental capacity,
· trauma-linked offending pathways,
· risk management and rehabilitation planning.
Paul’s expert witness practice is informed by more than 25 years of applied experience across HM Prison & Probation Service, the NHS, independent forensic practice, and trauma-exposed professional domains, including digital forensics and drug & alcohol rehabilitation.. His evaluations draw on structured clinical interviewing, psychometric testing, behavioural and procedural evidence review, analysis of medical and legal records, and, where relevant, CCTV and body-worn video review, within ICD-11 and DSM-5 diagnostic and formulation frameworks.
His work is grounded in procedural fairness, evidence integrity, and strict professional independence, with adherence to the Criminal Procedure Rules and Criminal Practice Directions (CrimPR/CrimPD), CPR Part 35 (where applicable), and Equality Act duties. Paul holds an Enhanced DBS certificate and maintains professional indemnity insurance. He accepts instructions for young people aged 16+ and adults, nationally and internationally, for English-speaking clients or via registered intermediaries and approved translators.
