CLINICAL

I am a consultant cardiologist based at the Wessex Cardiothoracic Centre in Southampton General Hospital. I have worked in cardiology for 20 years and been a consultant cardiologist for over 10 years.

I hold accreditations from the British Society of Echocardiography (BSE) in transthoracic, transoesophageal and stress echocardiography. I am also a Past President of the British Heart Valve Society (BHVS). I am a Fellow of the British Cardiovascular Society (FBCS), of the British Society of Echocardiography (FBSE), of the Royal College of Physicians of London (FRCP) and of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC).

 

ACADEMIC

I undertook a higher research degree [MD(Res)] at Imperial College London between 2011-2013. I have published 90 scientific papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals: my publications can be viewed here - https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?term=benoy+shah+%5Bau%5D&sort=date

I enjoy teaching other doctors about publishing and founded the online Get Published in Medicine course, www.get-published.com

 

MEDICOLEGAL

I have completed the Cardiff University Bond Solon (CUBS) certification in Civil Law. I regularly attend the Bond Solon Annual meeting and keep myself up-to-date on medicolegal matters in particular with regards to civil law.

I have written reports for claimant and defendant. My main area of work is in clinical negligence claims related to certain aspects of cardiology / cardiovascular medicine.

Training

Dr Shah completed a first-class BSc in cardiovascular medicine and an honours MBBS at Imperial College London, followed by MRCP in 2005, cardiology specialist registrar training in the Wessex Deanery, a research fellowship at the National Heart and Lung Institute, and a cardiovascular imaging fellowship in Southampton.
