Ms Evgenia Anikina is an experienced and highly skilled medical professional with a robust clinical background in vitreoretinal and cataract surgery, as well as medical retinal disorders, providing expert medicolegal services.
Ms Anikina has extensive expertise in ophthalmology, with particular special interest in medical retina and vitreoretinal disorders and their management, as well as cataracts. Also extensive surgical experience, including but not limited to macular hole and epiretinal membrane surgery, diabetic delamination, retinal detachment, lens replacement and cataract.
She is skilled in assessing and managing injuries and establishing causation and prognosis through clinical experience; of particular note is the high incidence of trauma cases presenting to the VR sub-specialty. Experienced in tertiary sub-specialist opinion in complicated surgical cases and provision of second opinions on management of surgical complications and trauma. Ms Anikina is also the lead for retinopathy of prematurity screening, with experience in reviewing neonates and babies, specifically including neonatal retinal examination and retinopathy of prematurity grading.
Ms Anikina leads a team looking after patients with the full range of vitreoretinal conditions and, general ophthalmic emergency service and emergency VR services. Also responsible for retinopathy of prematurity screening. Accepting and managing tertiary referrals from other specialties, attendance at Clinical Governance meetings and participation in planning Departmental service provision and responsible for training junior doctors in clinic and theatre.
Proficient in preparing high-quality medico-legal reports, she has undertaken extensive training in medicolegal report writing and continuing professional development in medicolegal practice. Ms Anikina has written multiple previous reports for insurance and employment purposes, as well as reports on case of suspected non-accidental injury in children. She undertakes work in the fields of personal injury and medical negligence in cases relating to ophthalmic disorders, specifically those relating to cataracts and retinal conditions, including cataract and retinal surgery.
She is skilled in interpreting and explaining complex medical information in lay terms.
