Details

Gordon Muir is a distinguished consultant urological surgeon at King’s College Hospital and Honorary Senior Lecturer in Surgery at King’s College London. He graduated in medicine from the University of Glasgow and served as an Army medical officer before completing surgical and urological training at St George’s and the Royal Marsden Hospitals in London. His international experience includes clinical practice and research roles in France, Egypt, the USA, and Italy.

Since 2005, Mr Muir has been active in medico-legal work, frequently providing expert reports for major medical defence agencies and NHS litigation. A recognised world expert in male genital self-image and size problems, Mr Muir has helped many men with disastrous complications from genital plastic surgery. He has also given many opinions on cases involving vasectomy, torsion and testicular damage, as well as Fournier’s Gangrene.

He produces about 80 reports annually, evenly divided between claimant, defendant, and joint instructions. Known for efficiency and accuracy, he offers rapid desktop liability reports and streamlined appointments for claimants when needed.

Mr Muir has specialist medico-legal knowledge in:

  • Urinary tract injuries (trauma and surgical misadventure)
  • Bladder over distention
  • Vasectomy and vasectomy reversal problems
  • Prostate cancer diagnosis and treatment, complications thereof
  • Male sexual Dysfunction and fertility problems

He is also able to report on general aspects of urology, such as :

  • Testicular torsion
  • Treatment of benign prostate problems
  • Circumcision problems: complications of genital plastic surgery 
  • Issues dealing with consent to surgery

His research and clinical interests focus on minimally invasive urological techniques to reduce treatment side effects, and he currently investigates links between physiology, surgery, and outcomes. Mr Muir has contributed ethical and medico-legal commentary to prominent publications, including the British Medical Journal and Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine, and collaborates on educational articles about UK medical consent and practice.

Gordon Muir has a strong reputation for reaching consensus on expert reports and has been commended by judges as “a very impressive witness” in high-profile cases, such as L and B EWHC 849 (Fam). He remains willing to provide references from instructing solicitors and barristers.
