Mr Kirmani is a Consultant Cardiac Surgeon at the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital. He completed his BSc with Honours at the University of St Andrews and MB ChB at the University of Manchester. He holds the FRCS (C-Th) from the Royal College of Surgeons of England ande specialises in Cardiac Surgery.
In 2024. Liverpool Heart and Chest was the largest stand-alone cardiothoracic unit in the UK by volume and Mr Kirmani was the highest volume surgeon. His special surgical interests include off-pump, total arterial, aortic-non-touch revascularisation; mitral valve repair; minimally invasive surgery; atrial fibrillation surgery andaortic valve surgery.

Mr Kirmani holds a Senior Clinical Research Fellow position at the University of Liverpool and maintains a strong academic profile. He is Chief Investigator for the Telehealth in Cardiac Surgery (TiCS) Trial and has grants totalling £4.1million as lead or co-applicant. In addition to supervising clinical and data-science PhDs, MDs and MScs, he is co-chair of the NIHR-BHF Aortic Stenosis Discovery Science Theme. He has published sixty three original peer reviewed research papers and edited 4 books. He has also presented many national and international papers and remains actively engaged in clinical research.
