Overview of Professional Duties:
I am a Senior Specialty and Associate Specialist doctor in Forensic Psychiatry with over 15 years’ experience in England and Wales. I currently work with the Forensic team at St Cadoc’s Hospital (Aneurin Bevan University Health Board - Wales) and as the Forensic Psychiatrist for HMP Usk and HMP Prescoed. I am approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act and have specialist expertise in the assessment and treatment of mental illness.
 
Application of Specialism in Expert Witness Work:
I am a Cardiff University Bond Solon Certified Criminal Expert Witness (2022) and provide independent, balanced, and evidence-based psychiatric opinions for criminal, civil proceedings. My medico-legal work is informed by extensive clinical experience, leadership within forensic services, and a commitment to clarity in communication between Mental Health and the Legal System.

• Fitness to plead and assessments of criminal responsibility
• Psychiatric risk assessments, including violence, sexual offending, and arson
• Mental capacity assessments (litigation, testamentary, financial, care decisions)

• Pre-sentence psychiatric reports assessments
• Reports under the Mental Health Act 1983/2007 (including Part III cases)
• Adult and old-age psychiatry within forensic and secure settings

• Over 30 criminal expert witness reports for the Magistrate and Crown Court in the past 3 years
• Over 20 legal reports for Part III of the Mental Health Act in the past 3 years

• DOLS work for Ceredigion, Powys, Rhondda Cynon Taff, and Gwent Borough Councils, 
 
Court Work:
• Regular oral evidence in Crown Court, Magistrates’ Court, and Mental Health Tribunals
• Experience in high-profile and sensitive cases requiring discretion
