Dr Maximillian Habibi is a Consultant in Clinical Infection and Clinical Lead and Laboratory Director for Microbiology at St. George’s Hospital, London, a position he has held since 2018. Previously he was Consultant in Infectious Diseases at Barts Health NHS Trust, London.

Dr Habibi completes approximately 12 medicolegal reports per year and has given evidence in Court on multiple occasions.

Dr Habibi studied medicine at Imperial College London, graduated in 2003 with distinction and was Proxime accessit for the University of London Gold Medal. He undertook his postgraduate medical training in London, gaining his MRCP in 2006. Following this, he completed a training programme in Infectious Diseases and Medical Virology in 2015, becoming a Fellow of The Royal College of Pathologists. He has been a Consultant in Infection since 2016.
Between 2010 and 2014, he undertook a Wellcome Trust funded PhD project Imperial College London with Dr Christopher Chiu and Professor Peter Openshaw. His project involved a study of host immunity during experimental respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection of human volunteers. During this time, Dr Habibi developed interests in innate immunity to viruses and the generation and maintenance of mucosal antibody responses. He continues to collaborate with colleagues in research.
Dr Habibi completed the Cardiff University Bond Solon Expert Witness certificate in 2025.
