Peter Byrom is a registered Audiologist who specialises in a range of specialist Audiology services, based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire,

Expertise:  Assessment and treatment of hearing loss and tinnitus for adults including brain injury clients. Reports for the court, Hearing Aid Trials and Costings. Vestibular Assessment (in a joint ENT clinic). Experience of cross examination in court.

Assessments include: Microsuction (wax removal) Otoscopy, Audiometry, Tympanometry, Reflexes both contra and ipsi, Reflex decay, Otoacoustic Emissions, CERA (Cortical Evoked Response Audiometry) Neuro ABR (Auditory Brainstem Response), Real Ear Measures

Experience: 20 years in the NHS as an Audiologist including paediatric work at a children’s hospital and adult work at a regional centre working in the ENT and Audio-Vestibular consultant led clinics. Clinical lead for adult Audiology patients at Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust (2011 – 2017). Clinical lead for Tinnitus (2012-2017) and Balance Lead (2015-2017) at Rotherham NHS FT. A registered Hearing Aid Dispenser for 15 years. I undertake regular Noise Induced Hearing Loss Claim Audiometry in collaboration with ENT consultants and the Legal Profession. Faculty at NIHL Symposium Manchester 2016. I also regularly write reports for the court. Research undertaken as part of an MSc in Tinnitus Management – gave results in a talk at the international Tinnitus Seminar in Berlin 2014.

Professional: In December 2015 I completed my 5 year term on the British Tinnitus Association’s Professional Advisory Committee, I am a previous trustee and have recently been awarded Senior Fellow of The British Society of Audiology. I am a previous director and treasurer of the Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists

Training

Peter Byrom has a number of Audiology qualifications; he initially passed the British Association of Audiology Technical Exams and gained a certificate in Audiology from the University of Nottingham, following this he went on to complete a Diploma in Healthcare and Bachelor of Healthcare Science degree BHSc (Audiology) at the University of Leeds. During his time at Rotherham Foundation NHS Trust where he became the clinical lead for adult audiology services, he completed a Master of Science (MSc) in Advanced Practice, also at the University of Leeds.
