Dr Tzvetanka Ivanova-Stoilova is a Consultant in Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine who has been living in Wales since 1994, having defended a PhD on haemodynamic changes during ketamine anaesthesia in 1985. She became a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists (FRCA) ( London) in 1997. In 1999 she was appointed as a Consultant/Director of Pain Clinic of Aneurin Bevan University Health Board and is established and affirmed a multidisciplinary acute, acute-on-chronic and chronic pain service for the Health Board. She became a Fellow of the Faculty of Pain Medicine to the Royal College of Anaesthetists (FFPMRCA) in 2007 and remains one of the very few full-time consultants in pain medicine in Wales.

Dr Ivanova-Stoilova established a private clinic in St Joseph’s Hospital in 1999 for patients referred from GPs, hospital specialists and self-referrals. The clinic welcomes patients with all types of chronic or recurrent pain. Her specific expertise has proven very helpful for patients with post-surgical pain on the face, sinuses, neck, spine, abdomen, pelvis, upper and lower limbs.

Dr Ivanova-Stoilova has expertise in the diagnosis and management of patients with complex pain conditions while in hospital and as outpatients and is also able to deal with patients with medically unexplained pain and who might have already been to various specialists without specific diagnosis.

She established a multiprofessional group for assessment and treatment of patients with fibromyalgia and St Joseph’s hospital is the only private provider of these services nationwide.

Dr Ivanova-Stoilova can often advise on the actual cause of pain, hitherto overlooked, and therefore shed light on the issue for the Court.

She has been able to assist claimant parties with a treatment plan in precise steps, which will be factored into the costings of the claimant.

Over the last 20 years, Dr Ivanova-Stoilova prepares 30 reports annually to be served to Courts in her role as a medico-legal expert in high volume multi-track complex pain cases.

She accepts instructions on behalf of the Claimant or Defendant solicitor. 

She is instructed as an expert in high profile medical negligence cases.

Dr Ivanova-Stoilova aims to see the Client within two weeks of receipt of instruction and produce the report within two weeks of consultation. She will answer all patient queries via email, telephone, Zoom, followed by clinical examination, making the patient aware of all clinical findings.

Dr Ivanova-Stoilova can see in clients in St Joseph’s Hospital, Newport and also in  Fitzrovia Hospital (part of Queen Anns Street Medical Centre, 13-14 Fitzroy Square, London, W1G 8EJ.) in Central London.

Dr Ivanova-Stoilova lectures nationally and internationally on pain management topics for GPs, hospital consultants, medical professionals and trainees. She also lectures on novel treatments and applications of radio frequency ablation, medically unexplained pain syndromes, managing the complex patients with diabetic neuropathies.

Dr Ivanova-Stoilova has more than 60 peer-reviewed publications, including chapters in reference textbooks which are all listed in the attached CV document.
