Details

Mr Raymond Ross is a Consultant Orthopaedic Spinal Surgeon based in Greater Manchester.

He graduated in 1971 from St Andrews University. After house jobs in Dundee he spent five years on a short service commission in the Royal Air Force. Four of those years were used to train in general surgery and orthopaedics with A&E training throughout.

He gained his FRCS and commenced higher surgical training at the Robert Jones Agnes Hunt Hospital Oswestry, which is a specialist centre for orthopaedics. One year was spent in Australia at the Melbourne Children’s Hospital. While in Australia an FRACS was obtained, effectively a higher specialist degree in Orthopaedics. Throughout his training Ray has maintained an interest in the management of problems of the spine.

Mr Ross was appointed as a General Orthopaedic Consultant in 1984 at Wythenshawe Hospital in South Manchester with an interest in paediatrics. In 1989 he was invited to apply for a post at Hope Hospital to join the Orthopaedic Academic Department, reducing his interests to paediatrics, trauma and adult spinal problems. In 1992 he reduced his commitment further by concentrating his work at Hope. A further reduction in the scope of his work occurred in 1995 when he elected to become a full time spinal surgeon.

Mr Ross has an excellent knowledge of traumatology, paediatrics and spine. His special interest in the spine is in degenerative disorders. He has written extensively on disc replacement surgery and has participated on disc design teams. His writing and teaching keeps him at the forefront of developments in his clinical arena. He is an orthopaedically trained spinal surgeon, still in active clinical practice but does not operate any longer. He reports and advises on a spectrum of spinal conditions

Mr Ross has a medico legal practice at,  Suite 3 fa Marsland House Marsland Road Sale M333AQ.  The practise is fully adapted for disabled access which is paramount for a practice where significant numbers of claimants are disabled.

His medico legal practice is centred on spine alone. He has a significant claimants' practice of between 150 and 200 cases per annum. With fewer defendant's cases but would like to expand in that area. He also undertakes Medical Negligence cases. where, he sees approximately 1 case a month and has acted for both claimants and defendants.

Agency work is undertaken. Also some selective law practices with whom Mr Ross has built up good relationships over the years. His practice is exclusively in the Manchester/Liverpool area at present. He would consider a London based venue if appropriate. Domiciliary visits can be arranged in exceptional circumstances.
