Dr Philip Mason is a Consultant Nephrologist, at Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Hon Senior Lecturer at the University of Oxford.

This post has five components- (i) Clinical, (ii) Research (iv) Teaching and Training and, in his own time: (v) Medicolegal.

(i) Clinical
As one of a team of 16 WTE Consultant Nephrologists Dr Mason provide a comprehensive nephrology service for Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and parts of Berkshire, Wiltshire and Northamptonshire. The unit workload is high and is responsible for:
550 dialysis patients (hospital/home haemodialysis & peritoneal dialysis).
1500 transplant recipients; in the last 2 years the unit transplanted. 260-300 patients per annum (kidney, kidney-pancreas, pancreas, islets & bowel).
Treating 120 patients with acute renal failure per annum.

A full range of general and specialist tertiary nephrology services is provided including renal inpatients, outpatients and inpatient consultant referral services
Dr Mason looks after the full range of renal, dialysis and transplant patients with special interests in lupus, vasculitis and transplantation.

(ii) Managerial, Dr Mason is;
Clinical Lead for Nephrology, 2009-2017.
Lead for medical transplantation, 2005-present.
Lead for Antibody Incompatible Transplantation.

(iii) Research
Principal or co-investigator for several transplant and nephrology clinical trials.

(iv) Teaching and Training
Dr Mason is involved in regular teaching of undergraduates and visiting postgraduate doctors as well as sharing a responsibility for junior hospital doctor training. He is an Educational and Clinical Supervisor, and is the Royal College of Physicians Regional Specialist Advisor in Nephrology for the Oxford Region.
