Details

Dr Rajesh Rajendran is a Consultant Microbiologist, Infection Control Doctor and Associate Medical Director for Infection Control at Manchester University NHS foundation trust and an Honorary Senior lecturer of the Univesity of Manchester. He is also the IPC doctor for NHS North west and the Clinical lead for the Greater Manchester Pathology Network. He is also the member of the GM Antimicrobial resistance group 

He has been leading on the COVID management from a clinical and infection control point of view in the trusts he is working. He has actively involved in the clinical management of COVID 19 cases with regards to diagnosis, testing, and prevention strategies in Cheshire. 

Experienced in management of infections, prevention and control and actively involved in the management of all infections and Sepsis on a daily basis. He is on GMC’s list of Experts and also produces expert reports for NHS resolutions. His other interests include decontamination of endoscopes, ventilation and infections arising from surgery.  He is actively involved in the day-to-day management Cdifficile and MRSA. He also has expertise in management of communicable diseases like TB and other tropical infections.


His special interests include Health care associated infection such as MRSA, Cdifficile, VRE, CPE and Bone and Joint infections such as septic arthritis, osteomyelitis and Prosthetic Joint infections and any form of implant related infections
He is actively involved in Antibiotic Stewardship, including the development of evidence-based guidelines conducting antibiotic ward rounds and participating in surveillance and audits as prescribed by the DoH on antibiotic consumption to reduce antibiotic resistance. He Chairs the Antimicrobial program board for Cheshire and Merseyside that reports to the health care partnership. 

Being an infection control doctor he would have to ensure that standards are maintained within Health care settings on all aspects of decontamination, sterilization of instruments and scopes and maintain theatre standards and ensure water quality and food quality for patients and health care. Dr Rajendran has presented numerous papers most recently on anti-microbial stewardship at the European congress of clinical microbiology and infectious diseases. Dr Rajendran was also Chair of the Cheshire and Merseyside Antimicrobial program board. He is actively involved in a Common Wealth Project on antibiotic resistance in Ghana.

Dr Rajendran has been accredited as medical expert and is a Full member of the The Academy of Experts. For his work on the COVID 19 pandemic and his work on Antibiotic resistance he was awarded the honorary membership of the UK Faculty of Public Health.
