Details

I am a Consultant Old Age Psychiatrist based at St David’s Hospital in Cardiff and, also at Llandough Hospital in South Glamorgan. I am an Approved Clinician for the purposes of Sec 145(1) and Section 12(2) approved Doctor. I am also trained for Deprivation of Liberty authorisations under the Mental Capacity Act. I have a special clinical expertise in Forensic Psychiatry of the Elderly. My medico-legal experience includes capacity assessments, assessments for acquisitive offending, ISPP, automatism defence, murder charge, insanity defence, arson, sex offender risk assessment, capacity to make Lasting Power of Attorney, Court of Protection (COP3) certification for Deputyship orders, consent Mental Health Act issues and fitness to plea and sentence options. I specialise in medico legal assessments of older offenders with dementias, capacity assessments, functional illnesses and cognitive impairment, complex cases of personality disorder and neuropsychiatry. I also do medico legal assessments of learning disability offenders and offenders with Asperger’s Syndrome. I have specific experience in preparing psychiatric reports for Crown Courts, Magistrates Courts, Mental Health Review Tribunals, Ministry of Justice, Prisons, Parole Board, and Probation. I accept instructions from Solicitors, CPS and Courts for Magisterial and Crown court hearings.

Training

I have undertaken formal courses at Bond Solon Training Company for Expert witness report writing and cross examination. I have completed Expert Evidence module in my LLM course with De Montfort University, Leicester.
