Mr John Boucher is a Building Envelopes Expert with over 39 years’ experience in the field. He founded Oculus in 2007 to provide expertise in the envelope/façade sector of the construction industry.

His field of expertise is in building envelopes i.e. facades and roofs of all types including; Facades: curtain wall, rainscreen cladding (aluminium, stone & terracotta etc.), insulated render systems, windows and general fenestration, bolted glass, balustrades, masonry (brick & stone). Roofing: Single ply membranes, built up felt and hot melt as well as glazed roof structures.

John has given oral evidence as Expert Witness under cross examination at the ICC International Court of Arbitration, County Court, London, DIFC-LCIA Arbitration (UAE), Supreme High Court Singapore and at The Royal Courts of Justice, London;

• Oral evidence as Expert Witness under cross examination at County Court, London as Single Joint expert;
• Oral evidence as Expert Witness under cross examination at the ICC International Court of Arbitration;
• Oral evidence as Expert Witness under cross examination at The Royal Courts of Justice, London;
• Concurrent oral evidence (“Hot Tubbing”) at the Supreme High Court, Singapore as Expert Witness which included cross examination, re-examination and examination by the Judge.
• Oral evidence as Expert Witness under cross examination at DIFC-LCIA Arbitration in the United Arab Emirates. Concurrent evidence and examination by the Tribunal was also provided.
• Concurrent oral evidence (“Hot Tubbing”) at the AIAC, Kuala Lumpur as Expert Witness which included cross examination, re-examination and examination by the Tribunal.

In addition to the above, John has been instructed on many cases that have either been settled in Mediation or subject to Adjudication.

As Expert Witness and Expert Advisor, these cases involve inspection & diagnostics, coordination of testing & provision of remedial scheme/redesign solutions of all types of façade failure including weathertightness, structural integrity, thermal and acoustic performance as well as façade fire safety.
