Expertise includes mental health of people in custody, serious offenders, and fitness to plead and stand trial. International authority on the mental health of prisoners, prison suicide, and the relationship between mental disorders and criminality.
Expert witness for the UN-backed Khmer Rouge Tribunal on fitness to plead and stand trial for Case 002. Have been instructed by Government Legal Office on extradition cases, and by Coroners and others (e.g. Ombudsman, NHS Trusts) to review the clinical care for individuals who have died in custody and during admission in psychiatric hospitals.
I have written psychiatric reports at the request of the CPS and defence solicitors on fitness to plead and stand trial, people charged with murder, attempted murder, GBH, ABH, arson, and sexual offences, and for professional bodies (including the GMC) on fitness to work and competence.
