DWF Foundation, an independent charity founded by DWF, has appointed Sir Duncan Nichol as the Foundation's next Chair. Sir Duncan will step up from his current role as trustee, and his duties commenced on 24 September 2020.

Sir Duncan Nichol brings a wide range of knowledge and expertise to the DWF Foundation. He is the former CEO of the NHS and has previously held roles as the Chair of the Parole Board of England and Wales and Commissioner of Judicial Appointments. Sir Duncan will succeed Jim Davies, who will step down as Chair but remain an active Trustee and Patron focused on engagement and fundraising.

The DWF Foundation has the sole aim of providing funds, resources and mentoring support to help individuals, groups and communities to achieve their full potential. Since its inception in 2015, the Foundation had distributed grants totalling £426k to 201 charities. Those grants were made possible by DWF's fundraising activities and donations.

Jim Davies, Founder Patron of the DWF Foundation said, "It has been my pleasure and privilege to Chair DWF Foundation since it was established in 2015 by DWF as an independent charitable foundation. This past five years, I have watched the foundation grow and I have been so inspired by the projects that we have been able to support. I am very proud of what the DWF Foundation has achieved with the support of my fellow trustees and the people within DWF. The share donation in 2019 has enabled DWF Foundation to have a lasting legacy. I was delighted last year to welcome Sir Duncan Nichol to our Trustee board, who has brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to our governance and grant-giving. I am excited to continue my support and involvement with DWF Foundation as its Patron, and I look forward to working with Sir Duncan, the other trustees, our supporters and the charities we help in the months and years to come. "

Sir Duncan Nichol, Chair of the DWF Foundation said, "The DWF Foundation already enjoys a proud history of charitable funding and support, and I am delighted to have the opportunity to build on that record. I look forward to meeting many of the people in DWF who help in raising funds and many of the recipients who benefit from our grant giving."

In the latest round of grants, the DWF Foundation awarded £47,444 to UK based charities to fight homelessness and support health and well-being and employability campaigns.

As part of its plans to continue to grow its support for causes, the DWF Foundation is now also recognised as Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) by Charity Commission for England and Wales.
